Caboose Takes Flight

It’s not every day you get to see a caboose soaring through the air!

Last week, the Pacific Northwest Railway Caboose that has been sitting on the Google Kirkland Campus since 2015, was relocated to the Feriton Spur Park Expansion and will be one of the park’s main features. Once the expansion is open sometime in mid-October, it’s likely that a local brewing company will be the occupant and will serve coffee, locally brewed beer and wine as well as finger-food out of the caboose. In addition to this exciting new feature, the Feriton Spur Park Expansion will also include a large vegetable and fruit garden area managed by the Seattle Urban Farm Company. This area will be part of a new program to donate fresh fruit and vegetables to local nonprofits. The park will also include a spray park for kids,  a pickle ball court and amphitheater.

Back in 2015, SRM purchased the 65,000-pound caboose from a collector in Bakersfield, CA and we had to work with three different Departments of Transportation in three different states to have it arrive safely in Kirkland.
