In celebration of Women in Construction Week, we’re excited to introduce one of our standout employees, Jyoti Bhadrashetti! Jyoti has been with SRM Construction for three years, beginning her journey as a Project Engineer and advancing to the role of Assistant Project Manager. We sat down with her to discuss her experiences in the construction industry – let’s hear her story!
Challenges as a Woman in Construction: The industry is male-dominated, making it hard for women to establish credibility. However, at SRM, I’ve found strong support and an environment that values expertise over stereotypes. The industry is evolving, and SRM is creating opportunities for women to grow and lead. I’m optimistic about the future for women in construction.
Attraction to Construction: Growing up in Mumbai, I was fascinated by skyscrapers. This led me to pursue architecture and later construction management, where I could bring designs to life and create lasting impacts.
Education: I have a Master’s degree in Construction Management from the University of Washington and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Mumbai. I am also a Licensed Architect.
Hurdles for Women in Construction: More initiatives are needed to encourage women to enter the field, including visibility of women in leadership, mentorship programs, and career development opportunities. Addressing unconscious biases and fostering inclusive decision-making processes are key. Flexible work environments and better support systems can help retain talented women.
Global Perspective: I worked in India and Dubai before moving to the U.S. In Dubai, I managed fast-paced projects with diverse teams, which enhanced my problem-solving, adaptability, and contract management skills. This experience broadened my global perspective on construction practices.
Jyoti’s diverse experience and unique viewpoints as a woman on our team strengthen us. She brings fresh ideas that spark innovation, promote inclusivity, and boost our teamwork. Thanks to her contributions, we’re building a more dynamic and resilient company!
